Briefly About Solar in India
With the launching of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission in 2009, India secured for itself a strong place in the global solar map and has not looked back since then. Today India is one of the 15 largest solar power developers in the world trailing behind countries like Germany, Italy, US, China, Japan, Spain, France, Belgium, Australia and Czech Republic.
At the national level India aims to achieve 20GW of solar power by 2020. Apart from this, states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, UP, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Orissa and Andhra Pradesh have also come up with their respective solar policies. Owing to these policies India’s cumulative achievement in solar power generation reached 2GW in 2013.
While on the one hand the central and state policies provided a tremendous boost to the growth and awareness of solar based power generation, on the other hand, factors such as rising electricity prices and long power cuts also have turned the common man’s inclination towards adoption of solar based power.
In 2012-13, electricity unit prices went up by almost 25% to 40% in many states and metros owing to unavailability of domestic coal, rising prices of imported coal, drying up of Dams and rivers due scanty monsoons and even in some cases damages to hydro power plants owing to excessive rains. This has not only resulted in huge increase in the electricity bills; closing down many industrial and manufacturing units due to unaffordability and unavailability of power; but has also affected the day to day lives of the common man.
The power crisis in the country is only likely to further worsen in the years to come in the form of more power outages, huge electricity bills, restricted use of available power, and less and less availability of power especially in the rural areas.
Some states such as Andhra Pradesh Tamil Nadu and UP already face power shortages of more than 10 to 12 hours in a day. These are the very states that have found an alternative to their power woes in solar based power generation.
Angel Solar recognizes the need of the hour; and therefore offers the most affordable and efficient solar energy based solutions for residential, commercial and community power needs.
